Mariah grew up for much of her life without her mother, who died when Mariah was only nine. Mariah had always been something of a tomboy, and the death of her mother only strengthened that tendancy. She spent her time throughout elementary and middle high buried under the hood of any number of cars, learning from her father and working with some of the guys in the neighborhood. She especially loved taking engines apart and putting them back together. It wasn't until High School that she started enjoying being more feminine, but no matter if she's wearing shop clothes or skirts, she can never entirely hide her tomboyishness.

She joined the military because of the job security provided with such a career. Her knack with machinery and people both helped her to advance quickly, till she was offered the job as Chief Engineer on the Irmensul.

Mariah is a quiet, shy person, but she gets easily excited about her favorite subjects, enough to more than overcome her self-consciousness. Though she works on top-of-the-line equipment all day long, one of her favorite ways to relax is still to work on an old car engine, though she rarely gets to do so on the ship. Mariah loves cars, especially classic cars, and the bigger the better. She also enjoys roleplaying games, shopping, and going dancing, especially with her sweetheart Ferra.
